Lessons? Whats in it for you?

While many schools have outstanding band and orchestra programs, some students want even more from music. How can they get more? Will a youtube video work? What about an article regarding their instrument? Sure, each of these options can be somewhat insightful; but they can only take a student so far.

Stan Getz, a world renown composer and performer said "You can read all the textbooks and listen to all the records but you have to play with musicians that are better than you." A student will improve the most and the quickest when studying one on one with a private instructor. So, what's in it for you (and more importantly, what's in it for your child)?

When enrolled in private lessons, a student becomes more excited and passionate about honing their craft. They will practice more, this will help them maintain good grades in their band class. Practicing at least one hour a day increases a young musicians abilities by over 50% compared to only practicing during ensemble rehearsals. They will want to do music in college, even if they aren't a music major. A large majority of college ensembles offer some form of scholarship to ANY student that plays in the ensemble. Most ensembles offer more financial assistance if the student is a great musician and performer. So that is a passionate and happy child, better grades, potential scholarships from a University regardless of what you son or daughter studies, and faster improvement on their instrument!

At this point if you're not completely sold on private lessons, it's probably because you're thinking one of three things:

1. Aren't private lessons expensive? I don't know if I can afford it.

2. I just don't have time to run my kid across town. How can they take lessons.

3. My kid won't commit to lessons, why bother?

The answers to these questions may surprise you! Read on!

1. While yes some people charge a large amount for a student, I want a great education to be affordable for anyone who wants to grow in music. Thats why the cost for private lessons is only $20 for a half hour and $30 for a full hour!

2. While some parents can make a trip across town, not everyone has the time for type of travel. Thats why I have made it easier to have lessons for ANYONE! If possible I will travel to you and your child so that can take full advantage of this opportunity. I also offer lessons ONLINE! If your son or daughter has access to some form of live video feed (FaceTime, Skype, etc.), they can take their lessons live online so no travel is needed and they still get all the benefits of lesson taking.

3. Most kids seem very uninvested in anything that isn't Fortnite these days. However, every student I have had and seen with other instructors becomes excited and invested by the second lesson. After seeing the full potential of their music making abilities, young musicians become very involved and invested in getting better.

So, have I convinced you that lessons are a great idea yet? If not, then maybe this will help. Why do I offer to teach students one on one? Simply put, I want to see anyone and everyone who loves music get better at it. Why? When you love something, you practice. When you practice, you get better. When you get better, you love it even more.
